Online Safety Information

Safer Internet Day is a fantastic opportunity to have a conversation with children about using the internet safely, responsibly and positively.

This year, the UK Safer Internet Centre is particularly focusing on the role of the internet in young people’s lives in terms of their relationships and digital wellbeing. These conversation starters are a great way to help you talk about these issues with children.

Conversation Starters for Parents and Carers

In April 2019 parents heard from an e-safety expert at Southwark Council about ways to help keep your children safe when using the internet.  Parents were directed to the following resources:

  • Parentzone.org.uk
  • Internetmatters.org

The expert explained that the best way to manage device and gaming usage is to first discuss boundaries and rules with your children. The settings on Apple devices, and Digital Wellbeing app and Family Link app for android devices, can be used to implement parameters.
